  23. SlideRule is an algebraic-type calculator for the Apple Mac. It has precedence operation
  24. and tracks precision to avoid rounding errors. It is similar in operation to many ‘real’
  25. calculators and so most of it will need little explanation. The best way to learn about
  26. SlideRule is to try it out and see what happens.

  28. Try out these features:
  29.  
  30.      There are 10 memories under the ST and RC buttons, they are saved when you quit.
  31.  
  32.      The Conversion menu provides conversions between many common units.
  33.  
  34.      There are buttons for commonly used functions. Additionally, the Function menu
  35.      offers some of the more esoteric ones.
  36.  
  37.      You can Undo/Redo the last action with the undo/redo button, or use command Z.

  50.      There is a log window, like a printing calculator's. Open it from the File menu.The

  59. 1.2  WHAT’S NEW
  60.  
  61. •      Rewrote the calculator engine to track the precision of numbers as they
  62.         are manipulated. This deals with the display of rounding errors.
  63. •      Added combination and permutation operators.
  64. •      Added a Functions menu with hyperbolic functions.
  65. •      Rewrote most of the code behind the Log window. It's a cleaner
  66.        implementation. Redesigned the log’s layout.
  67. •      Major rewrite of the menu handling code:
  68.        Customisable Convert menu.
  69.        Convert menu now remembers last used conversion.
  70.        Constants moved to the RCL popup menu. They are more accessible there.
  71.        All menus operate faster.
  72. •      Redesigned Prefs dialog. Now uses popup menus.
  73. •      Changed the way commands from the keyboard and buttons are communicated
  74.        to the inner calculator. It's simpler and more flexible.
  75. •      Changed the way update events are handled because the program could misbehave
  76.        on some machines under System 8.6.
  77. •      Push and Pop moved to ST and RC menus, as alternative functions.
  78.        Buttons are more animated when clicked.
  79.        Changed colour schemes (again... the problem is that it has to work with
  80.        a palette of 256 colours).

  103. SlideRule is shareware, but even when unregistered it’s fully functional so you can try
  104. it out to see if it's what you need. Unregistered copies flash an ‘Unregistered’ message
  105. in the drag bar before quitting.

  108. you can register by mail using the Register application. The file ‘About Register’
  109. explains how to do this.

  112. If SlideRule's preferences file is damaged or lost it will forget that it has been registered, just enter your
  113. name and code into the About dialog again.
